Chief Accountant

The Chief Accountant will be tasked with the responsibility of overseeing the accounting department, maintaining proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial performance and position at any time, developing financial strategies, making investment decisions, helping management with strategic planning, and ensuring the company compliant with financial regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Roles and Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, analyze and provide guidance to Senior Management Teams on budget development and management.
  • Management throughout the whole budget cycle and over the life of various projects.
  • Preparing financial statements for external reporting purposes such as tax returns, and regulatory filings.
  • Prepare and provide accurate and timely financial analysis reports and other reports and indicators to provide guidance with decision-making and efficient and effective financial resource management.
  • Lead on assessing professional development needs of Finance staff in the region and ensure focused plans for mentoring and capacity building to strengthen financial management service quality.
  • Good understanding of the CWIP
  • Act as the company liaison and a key point of contact on all finance-related matters internally and externally.
  • Responsible for making recommendations to leaders in increasing profits and cutting costs.
  • Monitoring cash flow to ensure that bills are paid on time and that there is enough money available to cover upcoming expenses.
  • Preparing reports on company performance including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow analyses
  • Reviewing financial records, contracts, and other documentation to determine accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Participating in or leading internal audits to assess the effectiveness of internal controls within an organization’s financial management system.
  • Conducting research to identify new accounting methods or procedures which could improve efficiency or effectiveness of operations.
  • Identifying issues with accounting processes or procedures that could lead to futureerrors or misinterpretations of data.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of accounting, International Financial Reporting Standards, the budgeting process and budgeting principles and practices.
  • A good understanding of business operations of the Company
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications such as Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and keeping abreast with the latest Financial Reporting Standards, technological developments, business, and economic trends.
  • Ability to competently perform detailed statistical analyses.
  • Ability to interpret financial data contained in reports and ledgers.
  • Should be able to prepare and present clear, concise administrative and financial reports. Very good review, monitoring, and planning skills with a strong eye fordetail.
  • Ethical conduct in accordance with recognized professional and organizational codes of ethics
  • Proactive, resourceful and results oriented.
  • Strong local tax knowledge, including WHT;QUALIFICATIONS

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Professional Qualification such as ACCA/CIMA/ZICA or other Relevant
  • Qualifications strongly preferred in accounting vetted by the appointing authority.
  • Master’s degree in business administration, Accounting or Finance is an added advantage.
  • Must be a member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA)
  • At least Five (5) years post qualification
  • Proficiency in English
